Things to know BEFORE you henna your hair

Thinking of using henna for your hair? Pat yourself on the back because you have come to the right place. Here are the top things to know before you henna your hair.

Henna can be messy business!

Get bathroom-ready by setting up your space with newspaper and packing away other products.

Consider what type of bowl you mix your henna in.

As henna reacts with metal bowls, use a ceramic, stainless steel or glass bowl for mixing.

Remember that henna can stain your skin!

As a natural henna hair dye, it makes sense that henna dye can also colour your skin if left on the skin's surface. Use a balm or vaseline cream to cover your hairline before you apply the henna.

Henna means that YOU TIME is activated!

Henna needs to be prepared first prior to application on your hair. Once mixed with warm water, it will need to sit for around 12 hours to allow the dye to be released from the powder. This is called 'henna activation'.

Once you apply the henna paste to your hair, you will want to wait for 2 to 4 hours to let the henna do it's thing... naturally. This means that YOU TIME is activated. Don't worry, you deserve it!

Henna cannot lighten dark hair.

Henna is a plant that naturally dye your hair. This means that it cannot bleach hair to make it lighter like other chemical dyes. If you have dark hair, get ready to see some sparkling red undertones as you walk into the sunlight if you have dyed your hair with our Henna with Heart packs. Yes!
Remember that henna is a permanent natural hair dye that will fade over time. Please patch test to ensure you are happy with the colour.
