How Henna Works.

So a plant that is green is dying my hair a reddish tone... What is that all about?

While we won't quiz you on the complex chemistry behind henna, we think it's important that we give you some background information. Time to find out how henna hair dye works.

The Lawsone Molecule

Our Henna powder is from the Lawsonia Inermis and Indigofera Tinctoria plants. From the henna plant, the small leaves contain the lawsone molecule.

When the leaves are crushed, they create a powder. With more sifting comes a finer, smoother powder. Our Henna with Heart pack will come to you as a powder in the compostable inner bags.

Once adding water, you will start to see the powder turn into a paste. When covered, the molecules begin to activate.

The Difference between Henna and Chemical Dyes

For Chemical Dyes:

In order to synthetically colour the hair, the cuticle has to be lifted so that the chemical hair colour can penetrate into the hair. To do this, there needs to be harsh chemicals added to your hair that permanently alters the structure of your hair and damages your cuticle. This is why your hair may feel weak or brittle after synthetics dyes.

For Henna Hair Powder:

However, the henna hair dye binds to the keratin, which is the outer layer of the hair. As the henna coats and conditions your hair, it makes your hair feel thicker and closes the hair shaft so that your hair feel healthier and stronger!
